Last class we discussed the history and future of Hialeah, Florida. Each group took on the responsibility of researching, learning, and teaching a significant part in Hialeah history. The four presentations reflected on the migration, past, present, and future of the city, emphasizing its importance and development over the years. This project allowed for me to understand the city where i grew up in a new light, i was able to see it from a different perspective, which allowed me to love it even more.
Presentation 1 made by group 4 was extremely eye opening and great way to start off the class. They were organized and confident about their information while also being inviting and personal with the story they were telling about the migration to Hialeah. They spoke about Cuba and other parts of latin America migrated to Florida and began forming the city of Hialeah. They touched on subjects like community at the time, natural disasters that affected the community, and business and home developments at the time. I really enjoyed this groups presentation because they were cohesive and confident. I really enjoyed when they mentioned the growth of the community and how it took place, they spoke about the culture surrounding Hialeah at the time and i thought it was beautifully described. The Layout of this groups presentation made it easier for brain to understand what they were trying to teach me while not being overwhelmed by all of it.
Presentation 2 made by group 2 was very entertaining and insightful in the past of the city of Hialeah, they spoke about The founding of Hialeah in the early 20th century and its development into a city. They mentioned multiple historical events the creation of Westland Mall, a staple of the city of Hialeah, and the city's extreme industrial growth during its development. They also touched on natural disasters that had a tremendous effect on the city's growth and how the community came together during these tough times. This presentation taught me that Hialeah used to be a more rural area and how much of a role it truly played the industrial economy of Florida. I really enjoyed the photos uploaded by this group since it gave their information credibility. There were multiple images depicting life during this time and i find it fascinating to see the similarities and differences from now. There's a photo of people playing dominos which made me smile because cubans love their dominos. I also really admired how the people in this group presented their slides while also providing us with ties to Hialeah now, it made it much more personal to the audience.
Presentation 3 made by my group, group 1, was a fun one to do. We spoke about the present of what is the city of Hialeah, i am glad i got the chance to dig into all the development and changes that have come about the city in recent years to help it change and improve over time. My group discussed the culture, demographic, local government and their impact, as well as the developments in education and jobs over this period of time. I learned that Hialeah, the city of progress, is known for its "entrepreneurial spirit" meaning there were immigrants living their dreams and owning family businesses. My group also discussed the 2008 crisis which was a huge downfall of the economy at the time, which forced people into financial ruin, especially unsuspecting immigrants who just wanted to fulfill the dream of owning homes. I believe my group did a great job with getting across out information to our fellow students but integrating pictures to depict our words. We made sure that our information was easy to read and focused on not filling up a slide with loads of information, which can be overwhelming and had to understand.
Presentation 4 made by group 3 was a great way to end this project, they spoke about the predicted future of the city of Hialeah. They were able to get creative with this part of the project and i believe they truly excelled on their work. I agreed with their info and found myself excited about what they would say next. This groups presentation, like the others, was wonderful to see and easy to pay attention to. I really enjoyed their presentation as a closing to this project.
